AJN Steelstock continues to top list of best performing businesses

UK steel stockholder, AJN Steelstock Limited, has been named as one of the top performing businesses in a list of Suffolk’s 100 largest, privately owned companies.

Produced by accountants, Grant Thornton and law firm, Birketts, the ‘Suffolk Limited’ report gives a unique insight into the performance of the Suffolk business community and is compiled using the most recent publicly available accounts (as of 1st August 2024).

For the third year in a row, AJN Steelstock, which plays a crucial role in the UK steel construction industry, has been ranked fourth in the highly regarded listing.

Recognised as one of the county’s top performing, privately owned businesses, AJN Steelstock, which has steel processing sites in Newmarket, Suffolk and Henstridge, Somerset, is also listed in the report’s ‘Top 50 most profitable businesses’ category for the second successive year.

Courtney Bell, AJN Steelstock’s Finance Director, comments, “Now in its 23rd year, the Suffolk Limited report has established itself as a key indicator of the health and success of the county’s top performing companies and we’re delighted with our continued inclusion.

“Our top four ranking is testimony to the hard work and dedication of everyone at AJN and validates AJN’s excellent operational and financial track record.”

“Despite the ongoing challenges of the UK steel industry and the wider UK economy, our continued success is due to the commitment we make to our customers, our distinctive capability and culture, and the unrivalled service we provide.”

According to the report, the combined turnover of the county’s top 100 companies reached £6.9bn – up 5.8% compared to 2023. Investment in fixed assets grew by 1% (£2.33bn), demonstrating a commitment to continue to spend on capital infrastructure despite long-term cost pressure.

However, EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation), has seen a slight decline of 1.2%, reflecting the pressures on profitability that many businesses are experiencing.

The figures illustrate that Suffolk maintains a diverse and resilient business landscape, with sectors such as transport, logistics and construction playing pivotal roles in its economic stability.
