One of the country’s leading steel stockholders, AJN Steelstock, which has sites in Newmarket, Suffolk and Henstridge, Somerset, has been identified as one of London Stock Exchange Group’s ‘1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain’ for the third successive year.

The 2020 report features the UK’s fastest-growing and most dynamic SMEs and to be included companies needed to show consistent revenue growth over a minimum of three years, significantly outperforming their industry peers.

The result is a unique list of the UK’s most innovative SMEs and demonstrates that the UK has a diverse economy with companies representing over 40 sectors from across every region in the UK.

David Schwimmer, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group: “This report highlights the vital role of SMEs in driving economic growth, leading innovation and providing jobs across the UK.

“In this challenging year for businesses, it is more important than ever to shine a light on these stories of resilience and entrepreneurship. The success of UK SMEs is crucial as we rebuild a post COVID-19 economy, and London Stock Exchange Group is committed to helping growth companies achieve their potential.”

AJN Steelstock employs 380 people across its Newmarket and Henstridge sites and has increased its turnover, year-on-year, for the last 16 years.

Despite a three-week closure in April 2020 in order to prepare the business to work around the COVID-19 pandemic, the company recorded a turnover of £132 million in 2019/20, accounting for just over 176,000 tonnes of steel supplied for construction projects across the United Kingdom.

For the past two years (2020 and 2019) AJN was also recognised as one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK and listed in The Sunday Times PwC ‘Top Track 250’ league table.
